The East of England Regiment was the Infantry Unit of the Territorial Army of
the East Midlands and East Anglia prior to the 1 April 2006. The name is
sometimes abbreviated to EER.
The East of England Regiment had very strong links with both the Royal Anglian
Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
History
This regiment was formed on 1 July 1999 from elements of the Royal Anglian
Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
Soldiers from the EER served in the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan and the Iraq
War
The EER was renamed the 3rd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment on the 1st of April
2006 as part of a larger reorganisation of British Army regiments
It is expected to play a large role in major operations between 2007 and 2009.
Regimental Structure
HQ (Suffolk & Cambridgeshire) Company at Blenheim Camp, Bury St Edmunds.
A (Norfolk and Suffolk) Company at Norwich with Platoon at Lowestoft. Formed by
redesignation of 'B' Company 6th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
B (Lincolnshire) Company at Lincoln with 4 Platoon at Grimsby. Formed by
redesignation of 'A' Company 7th Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
C (Leicestershire and Northamptonshire) Company at Leicester with Platoon at
Northampton. Formed by amalgamation of 'HQ' Company and 'C' Company 7th
Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
D (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire (Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters
Regiment)) Company at Mansfield with Platoon at Derby. Formed by amalgamation of
'A' Company and 'C' Company 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood
Foresters Regiment.
E (Essex and Hertfordshire) Company at Chelmsford with Platoon at Hertford.
Formed by amalgamation of 'C' Company 6th Battalion and 'B' Company 7th
Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
